Vision to Action: First Steps to Middle Leadership – Workshop

Monday, 7 August 2023
9.00am to 3.30pm (AEST)
Workshop: AEU Professional Learning Centre, Abbotsford

One of the main elements of the FISO aspect of Building Leadership Teams states that “Schools will strengthen their succession planning, develop the capabilities of their leadership teams in using evidence and proven coaching and feedback methods, build a culture of trust that is focused on improvement …”.

The development of middle leaders is critical to not only creating a culture of leadership and coaching within the school but to also achieving their strategic goals. Yet very few schools do this effectively.

In this workshop middle leaders will be lead through the thinking and first step planning to create a systemic approach to developing their leadership within their school. Middle leaders will explore the importance of creating a personal vision, develop their ability to be a stand and actively listen, explore the hidden influences of causing change within a school, and the key elements of communicating in a way that builds trust.

Designed for Primary and Secondary Schools.

Registration fee: AEU Victoria Members: $280 / Non-AEU Victoria Government School: $300 inc GST, course materials, morning tea and lunch.

*Note: Day one of the Middle Leaders Program or as a standalone workshop.

Developing Middle Leader Capacity to Coach – Workshop

Tuesday, 8 August 2023
9.00am to 3.30pm (AEST)
Workshop: AEU Professional Learning Centre, Abbotsford

Most leadership research points out that one of the key aspects to be a great leader is the ability to manage and grow the capacity of others to achieve a common goal. In schools this is not just about instructional goals but includes areas such as relationship building, being professional, collaborating, and much more.

In this workshop middle leaders will explore the thinking and approaches that will make a difference in building an environment of coaching and contribution. They will explore the purpose of coaching and the current reality of coaching their teams, discuss the principals of coaching and stages of skill development, and spend a significant part of the day practicing their coaching skills through a range of activities.

Designed for Primary and Secondary Schools.

Registration fee: AEU Victoria Members: $280 / Non-AEU Victoria Government School: $300 inc GST, course materials, morning tea and lunch.

*Note: Day two of the Middle Leaders Program or as a standalone workshop.

Developing middle leader capacity to strategically plan and lead curriculum and pedagogical change – Workshop

Monday, 30 October 2023
9.00am to 3.30pm (AEDT)
Workshop: AEU Professional Learning Centre, Abbotsford

Middle leaders act as the conduit between teachers and the school leadership team. In their roles they communicate the values and the strategic vision of the school to teachers and support them to enact curriculum and pedagogical change. However, middle leaders in many schools often rise into their positions without necessarily being trained and developed to strategically think and plan the leading of change

In this workshop middle leaders will discuss strategic thinking and planning and its link to leading change in a school. They will explore John Kotter’s two “operating systems” and eight step change model and discuss the process of strategically leading curriculum and pedagogical change.  A significant portion of the day will involve supporting and coaching the middle leaders to create an action plan to achieve the outcomes set out in their school’s Annual Implementation Plan.

Designed for Primary and Secondary Schools.

Registration fee: AEU Victoria Members: $280 / Non-AEU Victoria Government School: $300 inc GST, course materials, morning tea and lunch.

*Note: Day three of the Middle Leaders Program or as a standalone workshop.
